Following the actions of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, bands are increasingly realizing something candy shops realized years ago: Free samples result in more sales. Artists distribute their music on VolumeVote using a variety of different licenses. Information regarding the licensing of a specific song is mentioned on each day's page under the header titled 'Distribution Rights'. Some artists choose to encourage the free sharing and distribution of their music while others decide to control the means in which their hard work is distributed. We believe in respecting the wishes of artists regarding the means in do so as well. When VolumeVote specifies that a track is free for today only, it means just that. We have worked out a private distribution agreement in which the artist or label has given VolumeVote.com expressed permission to share a specific mp3 file for 24 hours.
