Legal Information

We here at VolumeVote work with musicians and labels to promote their artist's music. Giving away one mp3 file allows us to introduce great tunes to our visitors and helps a band gain exposure.

VolumeVote visitors tend to be music lovers. Following the actions of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, bands are increasingly realizing something candy shops realized years ago: Free samples result in more sales.

Artists distribute their music on VolumeVote using a variety of different licenses. Information regarding the licensing of a specific song is mentioned on each day's page under the header titled 'Distribution Rights'.

Some artists choose to encourage the free sharing and distribution of their music while others decide to control the means in which their hard work is distributed.

We believe in respecting the wishes of artists regarding the means in do so as well.

When VolumeVote specifies that a track is free for today only, it means just that. We have worked out a private distribution agreement in which the artist or label has given VolumeVote.com expressed permission to share a specific mp3 file for 24 hours.

Accordingly, it would be illegal, not to mention un-cool, to not respect the artist's request. As such we kindly ask that you:

  • Do not direct link (hotlink) to an mp3 download directly. Please link to VolumeVote.com so that the licensing terms are clear to anyone downloading the file.
  • Do not share the mp3 with friends. Send them to VolumeVote.com so they can legally download and own the file as well.
  • Do not upload the mp3 to peer-to-peer sharing networks, attempt to sell it as your own, or modify it and present it as your own.

We thank our visitors in advance for their anticipated cooperation in respecting artists licenses and thereby encouraging them to give out more free tracks!
